Aquaponics is coming to South Dakota

Global Aquaponics Inc. is excited to be developing the largest and most advanced aquaponics system in the world right here in South Dakota! This 40 Tank Aquaponics System will be the flagship system for Global Aquaponics Inc. and will incorporate the most cutting-edge technologies in the market to grow fresh, organic, non-GMO, and chemical free food. On just 8 acres of land this system is set to grow 2.5 million pounds of food, up to 3,000 gallons of drinking water and renewable energy. GAI will begin construction on the facility Spring 2017.

WHAT IS AQUAPONICS?

Aquaponics is a sustainable food production method that combines advanced aquaculture with hydroponics.

Fish, crustaceans, and mollusks are raised and farmed in tanks, and using the biofiltered, nutrient rich water from the aquaculture, plants are grown without soil.

Aquaponics produces fresh fish and other aquatic food, and organic non-GMO fruits and vegetables free from chemicals and fertilizers.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR SOUTH DAKOTA?

  • Year-round harvests
  • Fresh locally grown produce
  • Up to 50 jobs
  • Skilled labor development & training
  • And much more…
